Gransfors Bruks Tools

Mini Hatchet

Face: 2 ½"

Handle length: 10 ½"

Head weight: 11 oz

This tiny axe is surprisingly useful! It’s great for camping and bushcraft, being not only very light to carry, but also very sharp. Can also be used for carving and sculpting. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

£55.00

Wildlife Hatchet

Face: 3"

Handle length: 13 ½"

Head weight: 1 lb

A small, light axe which can easily be carried in your rucksack, or on your belt. Ideal for chopping sticks, for camp fires or at home. This is a
very useful little axe. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

£39.50

Hunter’s Axe

Face: 3 ¼"

Handle length: 19"

Head weight: 1 ½ lb

Made especially for hunters. The poll is forged thinner than normal and gently rounded and burnished to a Flay Poll, to be used when skinning an animal. It is also very good for chopping wood! Comes complete with a hickory handle, with circular grooves which give a steady grip even if hands are wet and sticky, and leather sheath. This axe received a design award from the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design.

£58.50

Small Forest Axe

Face: 3 ¼"

Handle length: 19"

Head weight: 1 ½ lb

Practical for splitting small sticks for kindling, or cutting small diameter limb wood for the fire. This is the same size as the Hunter’s Axe, but with a more traditional pattern and poll. The blade is thin and the handle is long enough to allow powerful chopping, but not so long that it won’t fit in your rucksack or the back of a car. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

£43.50

Scandinavian Forest Axe

Face: 3 ½"

Handle length: 25"

Head weight: 2 lb

A more professional axe for those who want to limb a felled tree in the traditional way.

Forged to a thin, curved bit and sharpened to make it suitable for cutting branches in fresh, resinous wood, spruce or pine. The long handle gives extra strength and power to the cut. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

£49.50

Splitting Hatchet

Face: 2 ½"

Handle length: 16 1/2"

Head weight: 2 lb

This axe can be managed with one hand. It is forged and ground to a concave, quite thin blade at the bit, which helps the axe to go fast in to the wood – and then split it efficiently when the thicker part pushes apart the wood. The poll of this axe, like the poll of most axes, is not designed for pounding on a wedge. Comes complete with hickory handle with circular grooves at the grip and steel collar near the head, and leather sheath.

£52.50

Small Splitting Axe

Face: 2 ½"

Handle Length: 20"

Head weight: 2 lb

This axe can be managed with one hand. It is forged and ground to a concave, quite thin blade at the bit, which helps the axe to go fast in to the wood – and then split it efficiently when the thicker part pushes apart the wood. The poll of this axe, like the poll of most axes, is not designed for pounding on a wedge. Comes complete with hickory handle with circular grooves at the grip and steel collar near the head, and leather sheath.

£51.50

Large Splitting Axe

Face: 3"

Handle length: 27"

Head weight: 3 ½ lb

Designed for splitting chunks of wood, or ‘rounds’. The thick part of the concave wedge shaped axe head powers apart the grain of the wood. The poll is not designed for pounding on a wedge. Comes complete with hickory handle with circular grooves at the grip and steel collar, and leather sheath.

£56.50

Carpenter’s Axe

Face: 3 ½"

Handle length: 18"

Head weight: 1 ½ lb

This axe has a straight edge and thin blade with low angle of the bevel face, suited for work on dry wood. The forged inward curve from the heal to the lip of the head permits your hand to grip almost straight above the centre edge. This, and the long, straight cutting edge, gives rigidity, stability, and control when cutting. Functions like a good heavy knife. The axe poll is ground and can be used as a hammer. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

£48.00

Large Swedish Carving Axe

Face: 4 1/3"

Handle length: 14"

Head weight: 2 lb

A chop axe, used for hewing bowls and other wooden objects, artistic wood carving and architectural work. The characteristic curved shape of the cutting edge, carried well above the head’s eye, the position of the edge in proportion to the handle, the rather thick bit and the big angle of the wide bevelled face, make this axe an excellent carving tool. Designed by master craftsman and author of "Swedish Carving Techniques" Wille Sundqvist, in cooperation with craftsman adviser Onni Linnanheimo. Comes complete with ‘rugged’ hickory handle, designed to give a good grip, and a leather sheath.

£69.50

Angled Swedish Broad Axe or Side Axe – 1900 Model

Face: 7"

Handle length: 20"

Head weight: 3 lb

The pattern of the Broad Axe and handle are based on old Swedish logging techniques for squaring logs and structural timbers of all kinds.

There is sufficient space between the "blade’s beard" and the handle for the user’s fingers. They are bevelled on one side, left or right, and the eye (and the direction of the handle) is angled sideways, right or left, to protect the knuckles. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

£119.50

Double-Sided Swedish Broad Axe – 1800 Model

Face: 7 ½"

Handle length: 20"

Head weight: 4 lb

The handle on this model is attached straight in relation to the blade. The thick cutting edge and wide bevel enable the head and handle of the axe to stand away from the material you are working on. Your hands are, therefore, automatically at a distance from the piece you are working on.

£198.00

Mortice Axe

Also referred to as the log house corner axe, this axe is used for cutting mortices out of logs. Comes complete with hickory handle and leather sheath.

Double bit Throwing Axe

Face: 6"

Handle length: 29"

Head weight: 3 lb

Different models of the double-bit axe have been popular in the U.S. since the last quarter of the 19th Century, because of their balance, feel and versatility. Today, the double-bit axe is very popular as a throwing axe. Comes complete with hickory handle and two leather sheaths.

£85.00

Double Bit Working Axe

Face: 6"

Handle length: 35"

Head Weight: 3 lb

The double bit working axe is similar to the throwing axe, except that the handle is longer with a swell-knob. Typically, one blade is sharpened to a finely honed, narrow ‘felling edge’, while the second blade is ground slightly blunter, and used for knots and cutting near the ground where a finely sharpened blade is more likely to be damaged. Comes complete with hickory handle and two leather sheaths.
